Rules & Tips:

  • Wheel, tools and stool must be returned clean and undamaged by agreed date.
  • Only materials provided by the studio are approved for firing.
  • Additional materials may be purchased from the Studio.
  • Wheels must be set-up in a safe indoor space and not be exposed to the elements.
  • Wheels must be turned off and unplugged when not in use.
  • Wheels should not be used by others not trained nor un-supervised by renter *especially children
  • Tools and supplies provided by the studio should be cleaned regularly after use, and should not be left to soak in water or left with clay on surfaces as this can damage and erode tools, batts, wheel head, undercarriage and surfaces.
  • All clean-up should be done with a damp sponge and extra moisture wiped away.
  • We advise using a tarp on certain floor surfaces under your wheel such as wood or carpet.
  • We advise a bucket system for your clay water as we do in the studio.
  • Do not wash clay waste down indoor plumbing. instead, collect in a bucket and designate a spot outside where you can safely dispose of clay water.
  • Save your reclaim & practise wedging it.
  • Clay laundry should be washed in a bucket of water and hung to dry. Dispose of clay water outdoors.
  • Avoid dry clay build up on clothing, foot ware, and work surfaces. Dry clay dust that becomes airborne is easily breathed in without notice. As the particles are too fine to expel, long term exposure to ceramic dust can lead to very serious health problems. This is the largest risk factor in working with clay, both in the studio and at home which is easily managed by keeping things clean as you go.
