LAYERS & PRINT - 5 DAY WORKSHOP
August 10-14, 5 days
Studio Hours: Mon-Fri 10-4
*hours may vary slightly to accommodate needs of workshop
Our Layers & Print Workshop is ideal for those who:
Have a working knowledge of clay
Are potters or ceramic artists looking to broaden their skills
Are surface lovers & surface curious
Are mixed media or 2D artists interested in exploring the ceramic surface as a new medium
In this Workshop we will:
Develop our understanding and confidence using underglazes
Create depth by building layered surfaces
Explore various techniques for image transfer: print in and on clay, various mono print applications, screen-print
Explore various resist mediums and applications at multiple stages
Explore the development of imagery & pattern
Encourage personal expression and mark-making
Considering the use of different clay bodies and slips
Discuss and demonstrate Slip Casting
Build our technical tool kit
Build a test tile library for future reference
To maximize these goals, we'll be working with test tiles, simple slab forms, and use a pre-bisque form provided by the studio. By the end of the week, we’ll have covered numerous surface possibilities, unlocking even more creative potential, with references to prove it!
Each participant can expect to create 8-12 tiles, in addition to 1 slab form (this year a plate like canvas form) and tumbler of vase form.
Those with home studios may chose to fire their own workshop pieces, though we are happy to fire on your behalf! Generally, finished pieces can be collected from the studio 3 weeks post workshop depending on studio demands. Alternatively, pieces can be fired, glazed and if needed, shipped at an additional cost.
